Raden Dewi Sartika is a pioneering leaders of education for womens. She is known as a national hero from Indonesia. She was born on 4th December 1884, Cicalengka, Bandung. She is very inspirational.
When she was a child, she always played the role of being a teacher after school with her friends. After her father died, she lived with her uncle. She received an education that was in accordance with Sundanese culture by her uncle, although she had previously received knowledge about western culture. In 1899, she moved to Bandung.
On January 16, 1904, she made a school called the School of Wives in the Bandung Regency Hall. The school was then relocated to Jalan Ciguriang and changed its name to the Kaoetamaan Isteri School in 1910. In 1906, she married Raden Kanduruhan Agah Suriawinata who was a teacher from Pamulang Coral School.
In 1912, there were nine schools scattered throughout West Java, then later developed into one school per city and district in 1920. In September 1929, the school changed its name to the Raden Dewi School. She died on September 11, 1947 at Cineam during the war of independence.
